As a result, more than 125 lives will be positively affected by our blood...

The Blood Drive was started by  former RIRA President, Matthew Katz, in the deep winter of 2002, just after – and in response to – the 9/11 attacks. The next year the organizers tied the drive to Roosevelt Island Day, in line with that day’s the...

Last year, when the Roosevelt Island Senior Association’s sponsorship wasn’t renewed by the Department for the Aging and its program director, Rema Townsend, was fired, all former board members turned their back on RISA. Only Barbara Parker stayed. Some people saw that as proof that she was somehow involved in the same criminal activity that Townsend would later plead guilty to. Yet Parker, and a brand new board, were able to maintain most of the curr...

The board of the Roosevelt Island Senior Association (RISA) has found itself on the defensive following a guilty plea to larceny charges by its former program director, Rema Townsend, who admitted stealing money from the non-profit’s coffers.
