The Public Safety Department is asking for Islanders' help in identifying a male and female walking southbound on the western promenade early Saturday morning, August 18 after shots were fired across the river. They believe they could be possible witnesses to the shooting.
Two days ago, the New York Post reported that shots were fired into One East River Place, at 525 E. 72nd St., a 50-story rental building between East 72nd and 73rd streets. Overnight between Thursday and Friday, the first bullet penetrated the living-room window of a 14th floor apartment in the building. The following night, a second bullet struck a window on the 32nd floor of the building.
The New York Post reported that that the 911 calls reporting the gunshots came from two overnight workers at 30 River Road, located directly across from One East River Place. The investigation to identify the shooter is ongoing and New York Police Department detectives have been canvassing apartments in 30 River Road, as well as between 30 River Road and 20 River Road, the building slightly south.
Roosevelt Island Public Safety Chief Jack McManus shared a video taken from 8 River Road of two possible witnesses or persons of interests walking southbound on the western promenade after 1:00am on Saturday August 18. If any readers can identify the individuals or have any information regarding the “shots fired” investigation to please call the NYPD tips Hotline at 1-800-577-8477.
