To the Editor:
I can guess, but I can’t really know, what Lorraine Altman meant when she wrote (in a July 27 letter to the editor) that Lisa Fernandez, the Director of the Roosevelt Island Senior Center, “surrounded herself with women as her advisers who, although well regarded leaders in other capacities, have actively tried to dismantle RISA.”
But I do know that transparent election results validate broad support for the Senior Center Advisory Council, which is mandated by the Department for the Aging. This is a group of women advisors, including Louella Streitz, Wendy Hersh, Mary Coleman, and Caridad Fraga.
Going forward, any new complaints will need to acknowledge that belief in the good judgment of Lisa Fernandez’ advisors has been formally confirmed by stakeholders with an active interest in what happens to our Senior Center.
