To the Editor:
On behalf of the entire Roosevelt Island Seniors’ Association Board of Directors, we would like to wish our members and our fellow Roosevelt Islanders a healthy, happy, and peaceful holiday season!
On November 19, we held our annual Thanksgiving Day dinner and are happy to report that we welcomed about 70 attendees to our event.
Volunteers serve dessert at the RISA Thanksgiving dinner.
We would like to express our heartfelt appreciation and thanks to those merchants who contributed to our organization’s effort: Costco, Gristedes, Wengerd Farms, Wholesome Foods, Island Wine & Spirits, Piccolo Trattoria, China 1, Bread and Butter Market, and the Bel-Aire Diner in Queens. Starbucks made sure we had plenty of coffee on hand, as well!
Thanks to Marilyn Atkins, Vicki Feinmel, Ronnye Halpern, Gloria Herman, Andrea Jackson, and Fareil Sanders who supported this effort with a variety of beverages and delicious homemade side dishes and salads.
Among the many other volunteers helping to set up the tables, prepare the kitchen, serve food, and work on clean-up duty, we thank: Linda Kilpatrick, Emily Carr, Mary Breslin, Patricia Rivera. The RISA board was happy to work alongside these good people. We also thank the many other people who volunteered their time to make this a successful event. We truly appreciate your unwavering support of this newly revitalized RISA and its executive board in this happy culmination of the past year and-a-half.
Among our RISA board members who put their best foot forward in this effort: Woody Deas and Nita Advani made sure our tables and the rooms were well and truly decorated. Nita also brought wine, and Anna Doumnova brought juices; Lorraine Altman patiently shopped at Costco and helped introduce RISA to Astoria merchants.
Lastly, we want to acknowledge Susheel Kurien and his talented fellow musicians for providing some really “cool” jazz, making our event even more special.
From all of us at RISA, we wish you and your loved ones a happy and joyful holiday season.
