To the Editor:
I just went to the Wholesome Factory Market on Main Street and, when I came back home and checked my receipt, I saw that they had charged me $6.20 for one medium-size butternut squash, one of the cheapest winter vegetables out there.
I could have bought it on FreshDirect or even Whole Foods for half the price, and it would have been organic. Every time I buy something at this place, I am reminded of our “captive audience” status and of the way our grocery stores take advantage of us Islanders. Why do we allow this? The prices at Wholesome Factory are an absolute outrage, even for NYC standards, which says a lot. I think we should all let them know, in person, online, whatever you prefer, but let’s let them know!
