Summer Camps Abound on the Island

Looking for more Island-based summer camp opportunities? Here are some Roosevelt Island programs with spaces available: 

 

 

Beacon 

The Child Center NY’s free summer camp, located at PS/IS 217, still has spots available for third through fifth graders. Camp runs July 9 - August 17 and participants must attend at least four days per week for the full season. Island Kids 

Now in its 12th year of summer camp, Island Kids offers programs for kids 4-6 and 7-10 at the Good Shepherd Community Center, 543 Main Street. Camp runs from July 9 - August 24 and can be attended on a week-by-week basis. The younger group is $375 per week and the older group is $350 per week. Some discounts and scholarships are available. Palladino Academy of Soccer 

The Island-based soccer club will offer three one-week camp sessions, June 27-29 ($180), July 23-27 ($300), and August 27-31 ($300). Camp runs from 9:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m at the Octagon Soccer Field. Discounts and scholarships are available. For more information, go to palladinoacademy.com/camps.

 

Roosevelt Island Racquet Club 

The Racquet club at 281 Main Street, beneath the Queensboro Bridge offers two summer camps. For tennis lovers, there’s the 12-week Advantage All-City Junior Tennis Camp program that runs June 11-August 31. For a more traditional camp experience with crafts, sports, and games, kids can attend the Advantage Day Camp that runs June 18 - August 31. Prices vary. Rogue Gymnastics 

Gymnasts of all skill levels can sign up for two-week sessions at Rogue Gymnastics. Camp runs from July 9 - August 17 9:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. Tuition varies by level. For more information and to sign up, roguerhythmics.com/classes/#summer.

 

Roosevelt Island STEM Center

This summer, Island students entering seventh through ninth grades can get hands-on experience with 3D printers, laser cutters, and robotics. From July 16 to August 3, educational nonprofit NYC FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) will offer one-week “maker” courses at their Roosevelt Island STEM Center at 544 Main Street, across from Good Shepherd Plaza. The cost of each weeklong course is $200. Music & Play Station 

Kids 3-7 can attend the play space’s 6-week summer camp, which runs from 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. Camp takes place Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays, July 9 - August 16 and features a different theme each week. $259 per week. Sign up at musicandplaystation.com/summer-camp-2018.

 

Roosevelt Island Day Nursery 

The private school will offer camp for older three-year-olds and four-year-olds from July 9 - August 3 at their 4 River Road location. The curriculum will consist of water play, art, Island exploration, stories, and songs. For more information, call 212-593-0750.
