Meet the candidates for the 2018-2020 Roosevelt Island Residents Association Common Council Thursday night at 7:30 at in the Westview community room at 625 Main Street. RIRA is a community organization whose members are elected by Roosevelt Island residents. Its mission is advocate for a better quality of life on Roosevelt Island by championing and defending the interests of Roosevelt Island residents. RIRA promotes the community and organizes seasonal events.
There are 44 seats on the RIRA Common Council, allocated by the population of the residential buildings, as follows: Southtown (405-480): 11; Rivercross: 3; 546 MainStreet: 2; Roosevelt Landings: 7; Island House: 3; Westview: 3; 2-4 River Road; Manhattan Park: 8; Octagon: 5. Residents will also vote for president and vice president. Candidates from Rivercross are Laura Hussey and Kaja Meade. Roosevelt Landings has Cynthia Ahn, Nancy Brown, Shirley A. Coley, Phinda Dlamini and Linda Maynard-Hall.
